However the Prelude is infinitely more than just a home entertainment keyboard, it has well over 1100 contemporary keyboard sounds on-board along with 41 sampled drum kits. These are played via the 61 key velocity sensitive keyboard and the two 10 inch speakers situated on either side of the keyboard chassis outputting 11 watts each.

The Prelude also has a large 240 x 64 dot white graphic LCD display which allows editing and adjustment of parameters, the internal memory holds a wide variety of intelligent backing styles plus banks of ethnic sounds and styles from around the world. The Prelude’s Style Converter and Playlist Editor software is included so you can customise and arrange your songs via PC and there’s also an on-board USB Memory Player allows direct playback of MP3, WAV, AIFF, and SMF files from a USB memory stick that interfaces with the Prelude’s USB interface.

Aside from the USB Memory player Roland have provided a 16 track song recorder with Record mode, count-in, punch-in & out facilities and quantize input controls.
